WHERE SHOULD WE GO NEXT?

Years ago I left my dream job. I believed the news needed to change. We needed less TV and more digital products for our audience to consume at their convenience. We needed to weave in more history. Without history, headlines have no context. We need to share more adventure. Embracing curiosity makes the world sparkle - learning can delight us and help us dream. Staying current should feel good. We should stop aggravating our audience with endless debates.
When I told a top executive about my ideas, that I wanted to help create this content and spend less time on TV, he looked puzzled … (I was a national news anchor, a position many fought for … how could I want to do more “online”?)
“So… you want to travel the country … reporting, WITH your children … ?”

I realized suddenly that he saw nothing different for me than the role I had. I could choose to stay or choose to go.
It was just one data point in the reporting I needed to do to make my next big decision...
And despite the many challenges that followed, I know I chose wisely.
Thank you for building this dream - proving we can deliver news differently. We are doing it together and making history, along with reporting on it.
With love,
Jenna
